Contamination of water by micropollutants is a serious problem worldwide. The presence of steroid hormones in wastewater can cause carcinogenic and endocrine-disrupting effect on humans and animals. The effective removal of these small molecules from water is an exciting challenge that requires innovative solutions and advanced technologies. Enzymatic membranes have the potential to degrade specific micropollutants such as steroid estrogens, through a biocatalytic reaction combined to a filtration process.
